Last Sunday the Retro Daddy and Retro Kiddies tagged along to the Sydney Rock & Roll Alternative Market at the Sydney Uni. It was my first time to these markets and it won’t be the last with the next one being held on the Sunday the 23rd of November 2014.
Oh My Goodness, I felt like a kid in a candy store!
As soon as I walked through the door you could hear the music pumping out some really cool tunes. It was hard not to bop along and I had to restrain myself from breaking out into dance! Retro baby didn’t like this music as much as I did – it was a bit loud for her and made her cry.
I felt relatively under dressed as there were pretty ladies dressed to their 1950’s best everywhere you looked. I was wearing a black A-line skirt with red cherries, black top and red lippy. Next time i will be frocking up for sure and visiting one of the stands to get my hair styled in true pin up fashion. (The hair thing is something I am yet to master!!)
Retro Baby rocked Leopard print & Skinny Jeans
You want to buy some old china siamese cats like grandma had? or an old mirror? Collectable records? Yep – all these can be found here. Shoes, bandanas, jewellery old and new, you name it!
What about matching Mummy daughter vintage dresses? Yep – you can get those too from a little stall called Pirates and Pigtails (Check them out on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/PigtailsandPirates ) That was the very moment I wished The Retro Daddy had stayed at home. I could have gone on a crazy shopping spree. So it is probably best that he was with me holding my bag with wallet inside.
Walking around amongst all the stalls the one thing I loved was how friendly all the stall holders were. They knew their stuff and were so passionate about all their goodies. One of my favourite stalls of the day were The Shady Ladies with the most fabulous custom lamp shades! Very quirky talking pieces for your home and totally unique.
My Retro Son Looved the vintage cars that were on display and even got to sit inside one of them and beep the horn!
So now i’ve started up a secret little fund for the next Rock & Roll markets and I can’t wait! More details can be found on their website : http://rocknrollmarket.com.au
Do you have a favourite Market? If so do share, I’d love to know about it.
